Teeth Scaling

Teeth Scaling

Before and After Comparison of Teeth Scaling

Dental hygiene begins with an assessment and evaluation of your periodontal (gum) tissue. An ideal home dental care routine is then designed for you. To enhance your home care, assistance is provided in the surgery, involving removal of plaque, calculus (tartar), general staining and the application of decay-minimising agents as required.

We use manual hand-scalers which has a curved blade or an ultrasonic scaler that vibrates thousands of times per second to effectively remove any calculus off the teeth. Water is used to cool the ultrasonic scaler and flush away debris. When teeth scaling is done most patients will notice bleeding gums and some teeth sensitivity particularly with the lower front teeth. The extent of the bleeding gums is dependent on how much calculus and how healthy the gums are. The more calculus and the more unhealthy the gums are at the time of teeth scaling the more bleeding there is.
